Auctria Voting
An overview of a straightforward approach to implementing voting in Auctria using Donation Items.
The most straightforward way to implement voting in Auctria is to create Donation Items representing each option being voted on — for example, which group decorated the best Christmas tree. Guests "vote" by donating to their preferred option, where one dollar equals one vote. The option with the most donated dollars wins.
For a real-world example of this approach, see our webinar: Christmas Under the Clocktower: Using Auctria for Voting.
Voting and Peer-to-Peer
Auctria Voting works on the same principles as Peer-to-Peer fundraising. The main difference is that P2P is typically more fundraiser-project focused, while voting is used to determine a winner based on donated amounts.
Step 1 — Set Up Your Event
If you are running a standalone voting event, you may want to set up a Donation-only event first. Both steps below are optional depending on your event structure.
- Create a donation event — see How To Set Up A Donation-Only Event.
- Add a donation page to your event — see How To Add A Donation Page.
Step 2 — Create Donation Items
Create one Donation Item for each option being voted on. We recommend configuring each item with tiered Donation Levels and including an open donation option so voters can give any amount.
If your event includes other fundraising activities alongside voting, use Tags or Categories to group your voting items together. This makes them easier to display on your event website and filter in reports.
Closing the Polls
To close voting at a specific time, set the Override Online Bidding End Time on each voting item. Voting will remain open until this time is reached.
Step 3 — Find the Winner
After the polls close, open the All Items list report and add the following columns to identify the winner:
- $ winning bids — the total funds raised per item (total votes by dollar value)
- # winning bids — the number of individual donations placed (optional)
See Choosing Columns for more information on adding columns to reports.
Filter the list by the All Donation Items group and/or the Category you assigned to your voting items to focus on just the voting results.
Secondary Fundraising Opportunity
After voting closes, the items that were voted on could be made available for purchase. Create a For Sale item for each voting item and display them in an appropriately configured Item Catalog. See Sales Dashboard for more details.
