Winning Multiples Of A Single Item
An overview of how Auctria handles bidders who want to win more than one of a multiple winner item.
As shown in the Chef's Table example, there are times when a bidder wants to win more than one of an item — for example, seats for a couple or a family group. To register their intent, the bidder must place a separate bid for each individual quantity they want to win.
This approach ensures bids are applied fairly. If a single bid could cover multiple quantities, it would be unclear how to handle it when a new higher bid comes in — should it displace all lower bids, or only the same number as the new bid quantity? Auctria resolves this by only applying a new winning bid against the same number of lower-value bids, keeping the available spots filled with the highest-value bids at all times.
Let Your Bidders Know in Advance
We recommend informing bidders ahead of time how multiple winner items work to minimize confusion. If a Max per bidder limit has been set on the item, make sure to communicate that as well.
Bidding Rules for Multiple Winners
Auctria calculates the required bid amount based on the following rules, applied in order:
| Condition | Required Bid Amount |
|---|---|
| Fewer winning bids than the quantity available | Any amount equal to or greater than the Starting Bid |
| Winning bids equal the quantity available | Must exceed the current lowest winning bid |
| Require bids to be a multiple of the bid increment is enabled | Must be the lowest current winning bid plus at least one Bid Increment, calculated from the Starting Bid |
Changing the Allow Multiple Winners Setting
If you change the Allow Multiple Winners setting after bids have already been placed, the following rules apply:
| Change | Result |
|---|---|
| Changing to Yes | The current winning bidder remains a winner. |
| Changing to No with a single winning bidder | The single winning bidder remains a winner. |
| Changing to No with multiple winning bidders | All winning bids are cleared. You will need to re-enter the correct winning bid manually. |
Clearing Winning Bids
If you switch Allow Multiple Winners to No while multiple winners exist, all winning bids will be removed. This cannot be undone — make sure you have a record of the winning bids before making this change.
