Multiple Winners
An overview of how multiple winner bidding works in Auctria, with a step-by-step bidding example.
Auctria allows biddable items to have multiple winners, provided the item has a quantity greater than one.
To enable this, open the item's Item Details page, go to the Availability section, set Allow multiple winners to Yes, and enter the number of available spots in the Quantity field.
Limiting Wins Per Bidder
To limit the number of winning bids a single bidder can hold, set a value in the Max per bidder field in the Availability section.
A few things to keep in mind when setting up multiple winner items:
- For fixed-price items, you can allow unlimited sales by leaving the Quantity field blank.
- For biddable items, a quantity must be set so Auctria knows when to require a higher bid — for example, if you offer five consignment travel packages, the first five bidders can bid the starting bid value, but the sixth bid must be higher.
- Offering a limited number of spots on a desirable item increases competition and can improve overall auction results.
How Multiple Winner Bidding Works
Multiple winner items are ranked by bid amount, with ties broken by bid order using a LIFO (last-in, first-out) approach — meaning more recent bids rank higher than earlier bids of the same amount. The top bids up to the available quantity are the current winners at any point in time.
Once all spots are filled, any new bid must exceed the lowest winning bid by at least one bid increment. A new bid that meets this threshold will replace the lowest-ranked winning bid, pushing that bidder out of the winning positions and triggering an Out Bid Notification to them.
Example: The Chef's Table
In this example, The Chef's Table item offers eight individual seats, each won by the eight highest bids.
Initial Bids
Eight bids come in at or above the $75 starting bid:
| Bid # | Amount | Bidder |
|---|---|---|
| #1 | $75 | Paddle #1 |
| #2 | $75 | Paddle #2 |
| #3 | $80 | Paddle #3 |
| #4 | $75 | Paddle #4 |
| #5 | $75 | Paddle #5 |
| #6 | $75 | Paddle #5 |
| #7 | $75 | Paddle #6 |
| #8 | $85 | Paddle #7 |
Ranked by amount (then by recency for tied amounts), the current winning seats are:
| Seat | Bid # | Amount | Bidder |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | #8 | $85 | Paddle #7 |
| 2 | #3 | $80 | Paddle #3 |
| 3 | #1 | $75 | Paddle #1 |
| 4 | #2 | $75 | Paddle #2 |
| 5 | #4 | $75 | Paddle #4 |
| 6 | #5 | $75 | Paddle #5 |
| 7 | #6 | $75 | Paddle #5 |
| 8 | #7 | $75 | Paddle #6 |
All eight seats are now filled. The next bid must be at least $100 (starting bid of $75 + one bid increment of $25).
Later Bids
Two more bids come in — bid #9 at $100 and bid #10 at $120:
| Bid # | Amount | Bidder |
|---|---|---|
| #9 | $100 | Paddle #8 |
| #10 | $120 | Paddle #9 |
The updated rankings are:
| Seat | Bid # | Amount | Bidder |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | #10 | $120 | Paddle #9 |
